The Lantern Tour: Ghost Walk Edition is perfect for spooky season. | Photo by NOOGAtoday
Ruby Falls is one of Chattanooga’s most beloved attractions, and it also might be haunted. I recently took the Lantern Tour: Ghost Walk Edition, an after-hours experience that begins with an elevator ride 260 ft underground.
From there, our group navigated the pitch black cave by lantern light while hearing spooky stories of ghost sightings and strange happenings from the past century. Of course, no trip to Ruby Falls is complete without seeing the iconic underground waterfall — and on this tour, you’ll see it in a whole new (and haunting) light, revealed by a single lantern raised by pulley.
There are six more chances to go this season, but beware: Tickets sell out fast.

Holy croissant. The Butter Milk Ranch in Nashville was crowned the best bakery in Tennessee by The Takeout. Luckily, you don’t knead to go that far for delicious baked goods — you can make and eat sourdough right here in Chattanooga.

I finally checked out River Street Deli after hearing about it for years, and I’m kicking myself for waiting so long. The vibe is great and owner Bruce personally greets every customer. He asked me a couple of questions before recommending the Elena Ruz: grilled honey-cured turkey with cream cheese and strawberry preserves. Not something I’d usually pick, but Bruce knows his stuff — it was the best sandwich I’ve had in a long time. If you haven’t been, run, don’t walk. They’re open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
