Editor’s Pick

If you’ve driven south on I-75 recently, you may have spotted large dome-like structures taking shape near the I-75/I-24 split and South Lee Highway.

No, they aren’t new sports arenas. They’re part of Chattanooga’s $153 million e2i2 wastewater project, a major investment to reduce sewer overflows and protect local waterways.

Construction crews are building basins that will hold up to 40 million gallons of wastewater during storms, preventing it from spilling into creeks and the Tennessee River. Once conditions return to normal, the water will be pumped to the wastewater treatment plant.

News Notes

Weather

Hamilton County is changing how it responds to emergencies after historic flooding in August. Instead of partial activation with 30-40 personnel, the Emergency Operations Center will fully activate more quickly, bringing in 60-70 responders. The goal is faster action when weather turns dangerous — even if it seems calm at first. (News Channel 9)

Closing

After three years in Chattanooga, Monkey Town Brewing Company will close its Ashland Terrace location on Monday, Oct. 13. The owners say they want to focus on their other Tennessee locations in Dayton and Loudon. As for the building? The new owners are keeping the brewing equipment, so stay tuned. (News Channel 9)

Edu

Big news for local youth: Chattanooga 2.0 has been selected for a national initiative to boost career opportunities and hands-on learning outside the classroom. Backed by The Wallace Foundation, the program could bring $6-$10 million to Hamilton County to support teens with mentoring, skill-building, and future-focused programs.

Fun Fact

The Tennessee Aquarium, which opened on May 1, 1992, welcomed its 29 millionth guest this week. For context, that’s like the entire state of Texas. The Lee Family was visiting from Tupelo, Mississippi, and they were surprised to be the milestone guests. They got free admission, merch, gift cards to local restaurants, and more.

Arts

Airports can be stressful — so why not unwind with some art? A new exhibit in the Chattanooga Airport’s ticketing and check-in area showcases work from 21 local and regional artists. If something catches your eye, it’s available for purchase. The exhibit runs through the end of the year. (WDEF)

Post of the Day

Exterior of an HTeaO store in Chattanooga, Tennessee, under a clear sky. A large logo on the roof displays "HTeaO." Foreground text reads, "Texas-based HTeaO enters Chattanooga market with Hixson store."

There are whole businesses dedicated to coffee, soda, and beer. But this one’s for the tea lovers.

HTeaO just opened its first Chattanooga location at 6212 Hixson Pike, and the owners say more could be on the way.

The Texas-based chain offers 26 flavors of sweet and unsweet tea, including Georgia peach, watermelon, blueberry, and raspberry. Personally, I’m curious about the caramel apple iced tea.

And if you can’t imagine giving up your coffee, don’t worry — they’ve got that, too.

The Wrap

The opening of HTeaO has me thinking about all the new spots popping up that are just about drinks. Every time I drive past Swig on Highway 153, the drive-thru line is wrapped around the building. What’s everyone so hooked on? And what’s the best thing to order? I’m a soda girlie, so I’d love to know.
