Need a new book to curl up with this fall? The Chattanooga area is home to several charming bookstores. Here are five local spots to explore the next time you’re in the mood to browse.

The Book & Cover | 1310 Hanover St.
This cozy, independent bookstore opened in November 2021 — and if you’re thinking it looks like an old house, that’s because it is. Housed in a 1920s bungalow near the Northshore, it’s filled with books, reading nooks, and a café serving coffee and croissants. Pro tip: The Book & Cover also has multiple book clubs you can join, including classics, fantasy, romance, and horror.

Storefront of "Winder Binder" featuring a large window with colorful stained glass circles and the words "books" and "music." A sandwich board sign sits outside.

Winder Binder is a laid-back bookstore that also sells records and art.

Winder Binder | 40 Frazier Ave.
This quirky bookstore has been a staple on the Northshore since 1994. It sells new and used books, vinyl records, art, and pottery. Fun fact: If you don’t have a specific title in mind, you can pick a genre and the staff will curate a “mystery book box” full of surprise reads. Keep an eye on the Winder Binder Instagram page for book club announcements.

Storefront of "Rêve Coffee and Books" with a blue awning. A sign reads "Support Local" promoting locally sourced coffee, teas, and art. Cozy and inviting.

This family-owned bookstore sells coffee + tea and likes to support local authors.

Rêve Coffee and Books | 1948 Northpoint Blvd.
This Hixson business is part bookstore, part café. Rêve has shelves lined with titles by local authors, plus house-made coffee + tea. While we’re on the subject, the Fireside Mocha latte sounds amazing. If you like murder mysteries, check out their Murder Mystery Book Club coming up on Wednesday, Sept. 24.

Street view of a quaint shop with a dark metal roof, located at "96 Depot St." A chalkboard sign reads, "We are Open!" The entrance is decorated with vibrant wreaths.

Book & Barrel is Ringgold’s first independent bookstore and wine bar.

Book & Barrel | 96 Depot St., Ringgold, GA
Yes, it’s just over the state line — but we promise it’s worth the drive. It should only take about 25 minutes to get there from downtown Chattanooga. Book & Barrel is one of the few businesses you can browse and read books while sipping on a glass of wine. Book & Barrel hosts several different events each month, including Open Mic Poetry Nights on Mondays from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Storefront of "And Then Books" with a colorful abstract mural. The colors include blue, green, yellow, and red, creating a vibrant and welcoming feel.

And Then Books is a community bookstore and an art studio.

And Then Books | 400 Spring St., Rossville, GA
This is more than just a used bookstore — it’s a creative hub and community space powered by the Chattanooga-based nonprofit ELLA Library. Alongside shelves of gently loved books, you’ll find an art studio, workshops, and classes.
