News Notes

Mansion Monday

Like a home with character? This 5-bedroom, 4-bathroom St. Elmo home is oozing with it. Just check the interior photos for proof. Plus, it has a two-car garage, two oversized pantries, and is less than a 10-minute walk from some of St. Elmo’s best restaurants and shops.

Today Is

The twelfth day after Christmas — one of the traditional final days to take your Christmas tree down. That’s where the “12 Days of Christmas” comes from. Make sure to bring your tree to one of Chattanooga’s five recycling centers so you aren’t left with a rotting pine on your lawn. (Southern Living)

Seasonal

If you didn’t get to experience the Enchanted Garden of Lights this holiday season, you still have a little more time. Rock City has extended the event for an extra week, through Sunday, Jan. 11. Grab tickets to Afterglow online.

Kids

Pretty soon, kids will be able to experience Italy without ever leaving Chattanooga. The Creative Discovery Museum is opening Ciao Bambini!, a new exhibit that’ll allow children to explore Italy’s food, language, art, and architecture. It’s included with regular admission and opens Saturday, Jan. 17.

Try This

Have you heard of Veganuary? Since 2014, millions of people across the globe have used January to reduce how many animal products they eat. If you want to take part, Chattanooga’s meat-free eats await.
We share our planet with remarkable creatures. National Geographic captured many of their extraordinary stories and journeys in its Pictures of the Year 2025. Don’t rely on the lens — make this the year you see the world for yourself, starting at Chattanooga Airport.

1,116. That’s how many responses we received from readers during our Giving Campaign.

We analyzed all of those responses to learn more about what you enjoy — and want to see more of — in our newsletters. Here’s what you said:

  • ~20-25% of messages expressed that local info + events are our key value. These readers probably love the Events and News Note sections of our newsletter, along with our monthly Plan Ahead.
  • ~15–20% highlighted NOOGAtoday’s fun, positive tone.
  • ~10% said that we’re part of their morning routine, and we couldn’t be happier to accompany your morning cup of coffee.
  • ~10% praised our brevity + easy-to-read format, so we’ll be sure to keep this short.
  • Several people also called out our support of small businesses + our “no-politics” approach. Psst: More formalized small business coverage is coming soon, so be on the lookout.
