Monday, Jan. 19 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and there are several ways to honor his life and legacy around Chattanooga.

MLK Day of Service | 9 a.m.-12 p.m. | Various locations | Volunteers can help clean up, revitalize, and beautify various sites throughout the city during this annual day of service. Sign up online.

Martin Luther King Jr. Community Day | 10 a.m.-3 p.m. | Bessie Smith Cultural Center | Enjoy free admission and spend the day reflecting and learning about King’s legacy through documentary screenings.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Hope and Community | 10 a.m.-5 p.m. | Hunter Museum of American Art | Celebrate King’s life with free museum admission and a day of reflection and family-friendly activities.

With an 8-4 vote, the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Planning Commission recommended denying a rezoning request for Patten Parkway that would allow a 12-story building to be built on the historic block. The City Council will have the final say next month. (Local 3 News)

Downtown Chattanooga could be getting more places to shop and eat. River City Company has partnered with a national retail recruiting firm to help attract new businesses downtown. The goal is to identify what’s missing and help add more shopping and dining options for residents and visitors. (Chattanoogan)

🏈 A new season for the Mocs

Looking to return to the FCS postseason, the Chattanooga Mocs have released their 2026 football schedule. The team will play five home games at Finley Stadium, including four Southern Conference matchups and a home finale against defending SoCon champion Mercer. Home games include:

  • Saturday, Sept. 5: Tennessee Tech (home opener)
  • Saturday, Sept. 19: Wofford (SoCon)
  • Saturday, Oct. 10: Samford (SoCon)
  • Saturday, Oct. 31: Virginia Military Institute (SoCon)
  • Saturday, Nov. 7: Mercer (SoCon)

The season kicks off on the road at West Georgia on Saturday, Aug. 29 and wraps up with a road game against powerhouse Alabama on Saturday, Nov. 21.

Season tickets are on sale now, and fans who buy or renew by Tuesday, Feb. 24 can lock in the 2026 price for 2027.
