Let’s keep things clean and green

If you didn’t know, it’s Earth Week, a time to celebrate nature, sustainability, and environmental action.
It’s also the first anniversary of Chattanooga becoming North America’s first National Park City, so the city has organized dozens of events to celebrate. Here are some of the ones we recommend:
Southside Cleanup | Wednesday, April 22 | 12-2:30 p.m. | Meet at Common House | Help clean up Chattanooga’s Southside neighborhood — all supplies will be provided. Note: This is just one of five Green Steps cleanup events scheduled this week.
National Park City Celebration | Saturday, April 25 | 9 a.m.-9 p.m. | Greenway Farm | Get ready for a full day of outdoor fun, including guided hikes, live music, a makers market, short films, and more.
Party for the Planet | Saturday, April 25 | 10 a.m.-2 p.m. | East Lake Duck Pond | Help clean up a local duck pond while learning about pollinators through hands-on activities, plus snag some seeds + gardening goodies to take home.

Award
Who’s a good boy? Chattanooga Police Department’s K9 Sully, that’s who. He took first place overall in narcotics detection at a multi-state competition, earning “Top Dog” and a spot at nationals in Texas. CPD’s K9 Unit racked up seven awards total. Congrats and extra scratches to all.
Cause
Bidders for Critters, the Chattanooga Zoo’s online auction, starts today at 8 a.m. and runs through Sunday, April 26 at 5 p.m. Bid on art created by animals, behind-the-scenes experiences, tickets to area attractions, and more. Proceeds will go towards an exhibit for Beni, the adorable Southern pudu.
Mansion Monday
Antique. That’s the first word that popped into my head while looking through the photos of this 13,000-sqft North Chattanooga home. It makes sense, considering it was built nearly 100 years ago. The classic details, architecture, and grounds will transport you to another time.
Read
Plot twist: It’s National Library Week. If your library card is collecting dust, consider this your reminder to put it back into circulation. Don’t have one yet? You can start the application process online.
Drink
Earth Week, Library Week, and we can’t forget — Nooga Spring Cocktail Week. Dozens of Chattanooga bars and restaurants are offering $8 seasonal cocktails and mocktails, plus spring salads, today through Sunday, April 26. Check out participating locations.

State
Have you seen Coca-Cola’s limited edition Tennessee can? In honor of America’s 250-year anniversary, the company released special mini cans for each US state — ours features a music note. As the birthplace of Coca-Cola bottling, we think it should’ve been mountains — or maybe even a train. (Nexstar Media)
