DYK the Tennessee Riverwalk is turning the big 3-0 this year? 🥳 As a city built around our river, the renaissance of Chattanooga over the last 30 years has involved significant investment in the Riverfront.

Landmark projects in the Riverfront District include the Tennessee Riverwalk, AT&T Field, the Tennessee Aquarium, the Creative Discovery Museum, the 21st Century Waterfront Park + more. These investments have anchored the tourism + hospitality industry, spurred signature annual events, and become fixtures of the image of Chattanooga.

Though Nooga has made significant strides in reinvigorating its Riverfront + downtown core, the Riverfront District has grappled with the challenges of aging infrastructure + amenities, single-mode roadway design, and an imbalance of tourist vs. local activity. While the Riverfront is a destination for visitors to Chattanooga, it should first and foremost serve its locals.

Enter: The Riverfront District Master Plan ONE Riverfront – which aims to:

  • Reconnect the Riverfront to the city’s neighboring downtown areas
  • Advance the activation of the Riverfront park system
  • Develop a greater sense of place through unique development, streetscape + public realm improvements and branding
  • Guide opportunities that complement greater downtown Chattanooga while improving the experience + function of unique users of the Riverfront District
  • Define the role of the district, creating a place that serves all Chattanoogans + the district’s strong tourism industry
  • And gather community input from direct stakeholders and local residents

That’s where we come in. What do you want to see go into the Riverfront area?

55% of you said you most want to see preserved green space near the river in the West End district when we covered the potential development plans earlier this year, and now we want to know: What else would you like to see between 4th St. and the river?
