Summer is just around the corner, and by June you’ll be ready to get the kids out of the house. It’s totally normal to feel overwhelmed … which is why summer camps are the perfect respite.

It used to be that camp was just, well, camp. But times have changed + now there’s a camp for every interest. Whether your kid is into technology, cooking, the outdoors or music, there’s a camp that will fit your budget and schedule.

We’ve rounded up a list of 10 camps for different personalities, but it’s not comprehensive.

If your kid loves animals …

Camp Chattazooga | Chattanooga Zoo 📍301 N. Holtzclaw Ave.

When: June 3 - Aug. 2.

Ages: Pre-K - 8th grade

Ages: 5-14

Sure, it’s about rock climbing and expelling all that youthful energy but it’s also about team-building and growing self-confidence. 🧗‍♂️

Ages: 4-11

What’s not to love? It’s a week in the woods with new friends. Campers will learn outdoor skills, meet new friends and, of course, splash around in the creek. 🌲

El Pueblo Spanish Camp | Language South, 📍 5801 Champion Road

When: June

Ages: Kindergarten - 10th grade

Designed as an immersive experience, campers at El Pueblo will learn about Spanish culture, enjoy food + activities for a week or three nights, depending on the camp. 🌎

An art camp at Chattanooga’s art museum. Sound fun? Campers will get messy and make some masterpieces… oils and watercolors + more. 🎨

Ages: 7-17

Campers will experience the world of railroading through hands-on activities that get them up close to historical steam and diesel locomotives and passenger cars. 🚂

University Challenger STEAM Academies | UTC, Challenger Center 📍 855 E. 5th St.

When: June - July

Ages: Pre-K - 8th grade

Students can spend a week enjoying a variety of hands-on experiences in the STEAM categories ( simulation, technology, engineering, arts + makerspace). You know, all that stuff they’ll need to know anyway for college down the road. 🚀

Camp Riverbend | Creative Discovery Museum 📍321 Chestnut St.

When: May 28-31

Ages: 6th - 8th graders

The annual Riverbend Festival is a feat of production and design. This camp gives exclusive, daytime, behind the scenes access to Riverbend stages + interactions with the people who make the festival happen. (They might even get to meet a performer.) Click here for more CDM camps. 🎶

Create and Cook Camp | Sweet & Savory Classroom 📍45 E. Main St.

When: May 28 - July 26

Ages: 8-17

A series of cooking classes to teach kids everything from basics like chopping skills to classics like homemade pasta. There’s also a special camp just for bakers. No soggy bottoms! 🍳

Ages: Kindergarten - 10th grade

The Chattanooga Theatre Centre offers more than a dozen theatre-based camps throughout the summer. Younger students can learn the basics of creativity + older students can take directing/acting intensives. There’s even a camp for those techie kids who’d rather get their hands dirty than step out into the spotlight. 🎭
