If you’re anything like me (Editor Brianna here), you’ve been curious about the space above Gilman Grill for awhile now (every time I tried to search “Gilman Lofts,” I was met with nothing). We finally got the inside scoop, literally — we were able to step inside of the space — and I’m excited to be able to shed some light on the second floor of the mysterious West Village loft space.

The Gilman building once served as home to Gilman Paint, a local spot that prided itself on the fact that “there are no better paints made anywhere.” Now, the floor right above Gilman Grill has been revamped + turned into a new event space, Gilman Event Hall.

The numbers

  • 9,000 sqft of space
  • Accommodates up to 300 people for meetings, weddings, parties, or any other event
  • 3 different connected “salons” that make up the full space
  • 260 hotel rooms nextdoor, thanks to a partnership with The Westin

The space

  • The renovated space has an industrial design paired with farmhouse tables, exposed brick walls, hardwood floors, and floor-to-ceiling windows — but our personal favorite touch was the working fireplace.
  • Because it’s a full-service event facility, Gilman Event Hall provides all catering

What we tried, saw, and loved

  • The Lookout Mountain views from the windows + outdoor balconies were pretty incredible.
  • The catering team really knows how to put together a charcuterie board (or table, in this case).
  • Dishes like Gate 11 Gin cured salmon crepes, seabass ceviche topped with yuzu foam, and sous vide fondant potatoes with charred heirloom carrot puree + basil oil “powder” all graced the menu — we were big fans of the potatoes.
  • The murals hanging throughout the space were all unique and interesting — stay tuned for today’s Instagram Reel to catch videos of them, plus more footage of the whole space.
