Public Art Chattanooga is searching for a diverse group of artists to beautify the boulevard — Rossville Boulevard, that is. 👀

Q: OK, how are we going to beautify the boulevard?
A: The plan is to recruit regional artists to create vinyl artwork on seven traffic control boxes in the 37407 zip code. Fun fact: about 20,000 cars pass by one of the boxes — that’s a lot of eyeballs.

Q: OK. Gotcha. Who can apply to create the art?
A: Artists who live in the region, which includes anyone whose primary residence is in the State of Tennessee or in Catoosa, Dade, Murray, Walker + Whitfield counties in Georgia. Alabama residents from Dekalb or Jackson counties are also eligible.

Q: Cool! What are the other requirements for the application?
A: Organizers are looking for artists from varying backgrounds to create works surrounding the theme, “Chattanooga’s Cultural Corridor.”

Q: Tell us more?
A: Well, the boxes are in an eclectic community known for its manufacturing industry + Hispanic Tiendas. Winning submissions will celebrate the “rich diversity + help build on a shared sense of identity and place.” You can read more about the criteria here .

Q: When do I need to turn in a submission?
A: By Sun., Dec. 20.

Q: And how do I turn in a submission?
A: Send it to Heather at blvdactionplan@gmail.com .

Q: Who is helping make this happen?
A: A group of residents, business owners + community stakeholders are behind the project, which is called The Blvd. Public Art Chattanooga is helping organize it.
