We have exciting news — one of Chattanooga’s most beloved experimental theatre groups, Obvious Dad, released its season two line-up for the summer of 2022.

Following a successful first season, Obvious Dad is excited to have the continued opportunity to connect with the local community through bold, live performances + keep summers in Chattanooga interesting, exciting, and conversation-starting.

Season two’s line-up aims to achieve just that.

Opening show: “Gruesome Playground Injuries” by Rajiv Joseph

According to Obvious Dad’s Artistic Director Blake Harris, this play written by a Pulitzer Prize finalist explores the intersections of relationships we can’t seem to let go of + how trauma can keep us from being fulfilled within our relationships.

Second show: “Brief Chronicle, Books 6-8” by Agnes Borinsky

Not only will this be the Southeastern premiere, but also the first play performed in Chattanooga by a trans playwright.

Borinsky’s play intersects camp playfulness with a deeper conversation regarding imperialism. A “rambunctious” show with only five characters, this will be a play like no other, according to Obvious Dad — there’s even a dance number.

Final show: “Ghosts” by Henrik Ibsen

The season will end with a theater classic — with an Obvious Dad twist, of course. Expect a postmodern deconstruction of the plot + visual aesthetics to see this Ibsen classic in a brand new way with relevance to the local audience.

Tickets will go on sale in the spring + will be $15 each. However, each show will have at least onepay what you can” night so everyone can have the chance to enjoy great theater. In partnership with UTC, performances will be held at the UTC Fine Arts Center.
