Nestled in the Clifton Hills neighborhood lies Crabtree Farms, a community-focused urban farm that has been serving the greater Chattanooga area since 1998.
Over the years, the farm has evolved and expanded, but its values have remained the same — “to help grow a healthier, stronger, and more equitable Chattanooga.”
Today, the farm serves as a multifaceted organization that provides fresh produce and plants, offers educational programs, conducts community outreach, and holds a commitment to environmental stewardship. All of which are pretty great, if we do say so ourselves.
In honor of its 25-year anniversary, the community is invited to come out to Crabtree Farms on Saturday, Nov. 4 from 3 to 8 p.m. for afternoon festivities. Note: The celebration is family-friendly, free to attend, and open to all.
Here’s what you can expect from the celebration:
- Tree planting
- Yard games + kids activities
- Tractor rides
- The unveiling of the community mosaic (created by Jessie Bean of Bean and Bailey Ceramics, which has been a year in the making)
- Live music + a performance by the Pop-Up Project’s Youth Program
In true community spirit, the evening will round out with a potluck and a bonfire. Crabtree Farms will be serving cider, chili, and birthday cake (a carrot cake from Poppyton’s Patisserie, btw) — you just bring the sides.
Bonus: Looking to give Crabtree Farms a birthday gift? The folks at the farm have made a 25th birthday list that includes items that support their field trips, cooking classes, the Urban Farm & Greenhouse, the community garden beds, and other outreach opportunities.
