We don’t relish being out of the loop, so we had to do some research when we got this question from reader Joyce Y. 👇
“I’m interested in playing pickleball, but I haven’t found any teams in Chattanooga. I’m a beginner, so I need a group willing to teach me the basics.”
If you haven’t heard of pickleball, it’s kind of a big dill. For those of you not familiar with it, pickleball shares similarities with tennis, table tennis + badminton (as well as other paddle ball sports).
So, where to play in Chattanooga? We got some answers from some of you + did a little searching of our own to find out where you can play locally.
“The BX, East Ridge Senior Center. No teams, just players. Outdoor courts at ER High school and in Collegedale. Players will coach newbies. Also, go to USAPA.ORG for rules and some good short videos of how to play. Youtube is also a great place to learn basics. Hopefully, the city will reopen community centers on Northshore and in Hixson soon for play. Any tennis court will do in a pinch for practice.” — Marvin T.
Other local places to play:
🎾 East Ridge Community Center | 1512 Tombras Ave. | Pickleball on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. from 12:30-2:30 p.m. and on Tuesdays + Thursdays from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. | The outdoor courts we refurbished at East Ridge High School are open to the public any time, but there isn’t a structured “program” with an instructor there. It’s just open courts for community free play.
