MLK

No one freak out, but there’s Reddit chatter that Chattanooga’s Main Street could get a small-format Target.

The corporate retailer’s 2021 plans do call for more of the small stores in “urban centers” like Los Angeles, NYC + Portland.

We reached out to Target’s spokespeople + didn’t hear back, and we’re no Los Angeles, but never say never.

While you chew on that, check out these nine developments that are actually in the works.

Across town

🏨Over the next few years, there will be about 1,500 more hotels rooms. Six new hotels are in the works across town, some reaching into the Northwest Georgia area.

Brainerd

🏘️The Chambliss Center for Children has partnered with nonprofit Isaiah 117 House to create a place for children who are removed from their homes, before they go into foster care.

Broad Street

🥒 We may also be getting a new grocery by Gordon Food Service. The project is in the beginning stages, but developer John Wise said it could be part of a mini West Village, including a country-themed restaurant, large outdoor entertainment area + pool.

Hixson

☕ A new 2,100-square-foot Starbucks, with indoor dining and a drive-thru + additional retail and restaurant space is coming to Highway 153 and Berean Rd.

MLK

🎨 A new three-story, 12,000 square-foot building is going up on downtown’s East MLK Blvd. + will hold office space, a restaurant, and a mural. The first floor of the new space is already leased out to a “well-known” Nashville-based restaurant, but there’s no word on what it is yet.

North Shore

🏢 A developer is proposing a $15 million project in Chattanooga’s North Shore to add new apartments, offices, and possible retail space, just off Cherokee Boulevard.

Ooltewah

🚗 The final segment of the road from Chattanooga’s Volkswagen plant to Highway 58, dubbed the Yellow Brick Road, is set to be completed by August 2022. The road will be a direct link between I-75 and Highway 58.

Red Bank

🏠 Chattanooga’s Collier Construction is working on a single-family rental neighborhood called Julia’s Park. It is located in Red Bank + consists of 34 individually-platted rental homes.

The county

🚜 Hamilton County is expected to make an offer on the McDonald Farm that covers land in both Hamilton + Rhea counties. Hamilton County may use it to make the biggest new industrial park in the county in two decades.
