Back in early May, we asked our readers to share their favorite local restaurants with international food offerings to help us make an “eat around the world” guide without having to leave Chattanooga. As always, y’all pulled through.

Mexico
Taqueria Jalisco Ania, 1639 Rossville Ave. | This spot is Editor Kristen’s go-to for Mexican cuisine, you can’t go wrong with the street-style tacos + the Oaxacan Old Fashioned.
La Alteña, Various locations | Editor Haley is a frequent diner at the 314 W. Main St. location + loves all of its offerings including the steak Mexico City street-style tacos.

Bela Lisboa Restaurant, 417 Frazier Ave. | “I’ve been to Portugal and they totally nail the relaxed vibe and the cuisine. The menu is great, but I always make sure to order octopus and a glass of Vinho Verde.” — Rachel G.

Councilwoman Raquetta Dotley invites the public to a community meeting on Thursday, June 8 at Westside Church (4001 Hughes Ave.). The meeting will focus on addressing questions and concerns regarding the proposed development on the Key James + Acme Brick site.
Announced
The historic Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel will undergo a reimagination project later this year to transform into The Hotel Chalet. Stay tuned for updates on the hotel’s new journey on its dedicated Instagram page.
Edu
The Tennessee Valley Authority and EPB have awarded $60,000 in STEM grants to 15 schools in the greater Chattanooga area. The grants will support the development of education projects + 136,000 students with hands-on STEM activities. (The Pulse)
Traffic
An emergency road closure on 1200 Richard Avenue + W. Hoyt Street has gone into effect due to a water main break. The closures are expected to remain in place until Friday, June 2. Plan for detours.
Community
Vendor applications are now open for the 2023 Chattanooga Pride Festival on Sunday, Oct. 8. Register online by Thursday, Aug. 31. Note: after submitting your application, allow for one week for an invoice to be sent.
The Collegedale Public Library will offer special summer library cards for $10 to residents living outside of Collegedale city limits. The cards will be valid from now until Thursday, Aug. 31.
Arts
The Jewish Cultural Center (5461 N. Terrace Rd.) will host an opening reception of its summer exhibition “Jews, Blues & All That Jazz” on Sunday, June 11 from 2-5 p.m. The exhibit will run until Friday, Aug. 4.
Theater
The Chattanooga Public Library will present a performance of the one-man show “A Life of Sorrow, the Life and Times of Carter Stanley” on Friday, June 9 at the Downtown Library Auditorium. The event is free + open to the public — space is limited, so folks can RSVP to ensure their spot.
Scenic City Shakespeare has extended its performances this season to add showings on Friday, June 2 + Saturday, June 3. This event series is free to the public and will feature a local rendition of Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” in a park. RSVP online.

From now until Monday, June 19, books can be purchased from a curated collection of titles about African American history + experiences from The Book & Cover at 1310 Hanover St.
Note: You can choose the titles you wish to purchase with the folks at the shop, who will place an online order collectively to make it an easy process for everyone.
The books collected will be distributed to school-aged children in Chattanooga following the Juneteenth National Freedom Day Parade on Monday, June 19.
