The Hamilton County Commission recently approved the transfer of the FUSE initiative from the Sheriff’s Office to the Department of Economic and Community Development. This change hopes to “coordinate efforts across county government in addressing the mental health crisis in our community.” (Chattanoogan.com)

The City of Chattanooga was recently awarded a AAA bond rating from S&P Global Rating for the third year in a row. This award recognizes several factors, including the city’s growing regional economy, “strong and stable financial position,” and supportive practices and policies. (WDEF)
Tech
Tech Tuesdays Chattanooga, a new weekly series, will kick off on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at Society of Work in Somer Station. This free and open-to-the-public workspace + event series “connects and empowers founders, funders, coders, and community builders in the local tech industry.”
Cause
Outshine Adventures + partners will host a Litter Clean Up at Harrison Bay State Park and the Wolftever Creek Boat Ramp on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. You can help clear out the litter on land and in the water via paddleboard. RSVP.

River City Co. will host its “Downtown Skele-bration” on Saturday, Oct. 28. The day will feature four events at various locations downtown to celebrate Halloween + Dia de Los Santos (All Souls Day) that are open to the public and family-friendly. See event details.

Remember when we announced the closing of local jewelry shop Bela Co.? The business has officially closed its doors to customers and will have an estate sale today, Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. + Saturday, Oct. 21 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Think: furniture, fixtures, and leftover inventory.

The Music Division of the UTC Department of Performing Arts will host the premier of alumnus Dagan Beckett’s documentary “Beautiful Faces.” The screening will take place on Friday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. with an opportunity to meet Beckett before. Members and nonmembers are invited to participate in the Chattanooga Writers’ Guild’s upcoming Fall Writing Workshop on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The workshop will take place at Second Presbyterian Church (700 Pine St.) + check-in will begin at 10:30 a.m.
Several authors will present on various writing topics, be available for questions, and will sell + sign books. Participants are encouraged to spend the evening networking and exchanging ideas with other writers in the community.
Last month, I wrote about the folks behind Gowin Valley Farms and their mushroom operations. If you’re still curious about trying out some of their mushrooms, beginning today you can pick up some at Southern Squeeze. They will stock half-pound + one-pound boxes of lion’s mane and oyster mushrooms in the coolers.
