If you’ve ever stumbled upon one of those little libraries around Chattanooga on a walk but didn’t have time to snag a book or had one you wanted to exchange — this scavenger hunt is for you.
With the help of our readers, we have located some of the community bookshelves around the area + are dropping some clues on how to find them. You might want to dog ear this for later.
Missionary Ridge

The first phase of the expansion and renovation of the James A. Henry Building has been approved. As part of the Westside Evolves plan, it will feature a local Head Start program, a health clinic, improved classrooms, and more. Construction is expected to begin this July + completed in July 2025. Traffic
The Wilcox Boulevard Bridge (between Holtzclaw Avenue + Amnicola Highway) will close today, June 4 at 8 a.m. for crews to conduct inspections, repair potholes, and resurface an approach. The bridge will reopen tomorrow, June 5 at 4 p.m. Detours will be posted.
Civic
Chattanoogans are invited to attend a roundtable event at City Hall with Mayor Tim Kelly on Monday, June 17. Mayor Kelly will give a presentation on his One Chattanooga Plan and answer questions from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. RSVP + submit questions.
Real Estate
The former Earth Fare grocery store location in Hixson has been purchased by Blood Assurance for $3.75 million. The 39,700-sqft building, located at 5414 Hixson Pk., will allow the company to expand its laboratory testing efforts, including “a separate lab for cellular therapy.” (Chattanooga Times Free Press)
Outdoors
The City of Chattanooga recently received approval for a TRPA Healthy Play Initiative National Demonstration Site. The city will receive funding from GameTime to build a new playground at Washington Hills Park, located off of Highway 58. Stay tuned for more information.

Gallery 1401 has announced it will relocate to 1401 Willams St. this summer. Fun fact: This was the gallery’s original location more than 25 years ago. Make sure to follow along on Instagram for opening updates.
Community
Supporting local just got sweeter. The Chattanooga Market’s annual Ice Cream Social, benefitting Girls Inc. of Chattanooga, returns this Sunday, June 9 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For a $10 donation, you’ll be able to sample ice cream from five local creameries and vote for your favorite flavor.
Kids
The Avondale Community Center will host a Juneteenth 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament on Saturday, June 15. Middle + high school students can register from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., and the games will begin at 11 a.m. Bonus: There will also be free food on site.

Have a bike lying around you’re not utilizing? White Oak Bicycle Co-Op is currently seeking bicycle donations in any condition for upcoming distributions. Folks can drop off bikes at any of the 10 donation locations.

NPR had a wild card question in a recent interview that really got us thinking. What about Chattanooga have you grown to appreciate over time?
Whether the Scenic City is your hometown or has become home over the course of just a few months — we want to know.
To start it off, Editor Haley has now entered the chat. While I’ve lived in Tennessee my whole life, I didn’t move to Chattanooga until 2017, and I was pleasantly surprised by how unlike this city is to anywhere else in the South.
The camaraderie and community give you that sense of Southern hospitality we love to boast about, but it’s more than that. Chattanoogans know what environment they want and they curate that in everything they do, from local businesses to community events.
