Is it a trip to Knoxville if you don’t take a photo of the Sunsphere? | Photo by J. Glover via Wikimedia Commons
In honor of NOOGAtoday’s parent company launching 865today over the summer, we thought it was time to revisit our road trip series — this time with a trip to the Scruffy City.
With easy access to the Smokies, Knoxville’s Urban Wilderness, and scenic waterways, this is the perfect place to enjoy the outdoors in a new setting.
Things to do
Once you’ve had your fill of Chattanooga’s views, try the various trails in Knoxville. Stick within city limits for hikes like Ijams Tharp Trace Trail, or take advantage of Knoxville’s proximity to the Smokies for a hike just outside of town.
Hamilton County plans to preserve 1,000+ acres at McDonald Farm while opening 500 acres at Enterprise South (near Volkswagen) for industrial growth. Officials say it balances job creation with green space protection — but some residents worry about losing parkland. The plan still needs local, state + federal approval before moving forward. Starting Wednesday, Oct. 29, Soddy Daisy will join Hamilton County 911, a move that’s expected to speed up emergency response times by streamlining communication. The new partnership also means upgraded technology, stronger support for first responders, and long-term savings for the city. (Local 3 News)

Health
Remember those white bugs we mentioned earlier this week? They’re not just annoying to look at; they could be making your allergies worse. The bugs excrete a sugary substance when they eat, which drips onto surfaces where mold eventually grows. Here’s how to get through the next few weeks. (News Channel 9)
Today Is
World Mental Health Day, a reminder to check in with yourself and others, and to explore ways to find support. The weather’s looking perfect, so it’s also a great day to care for your mental health outdoors. Try a walk or hike on one of Chattanooga’s many beautiful trails or parks.

In yesterday’s newsletter, I asked for your Swig secrets — what’s worth ordering, and what makes it so popular. Reader Shelby G. came through: “I don’t do caffeine, so I usually go for a Hula Girl or Poppin’ Pineapple — something fruity with a Sprite base. You also have to try the mini chocolate chip cookies and pretzel bites (don’t forget a dip).”
Thank you, Shelby. Now I’m hungry and officially ready to get my Swig on.
