Here’s how it works: Cameras detect how many vehicles are waiting and send that information in real time to the city’s traffic management team. That lets them adjust the lights based on actual traffic, helping cars move more smoothly.
Detection systems are already in place at these intersections:
Bonny Oaks Dr. + Hickory Valley Rd. (near Enterprise South)
Cherokee Blvd. + Manufacturers Rd. (North Shore)
Frazier Ave. + Barton Ave. (near Veterans Bridge)
East Brainerd Rd. + Panorama Dr. (near I-75)
East Brainerd Rd. + N Concord Rd. (near I-75)
They’ll also be installed soon at several spots along Highway 153, including Gadd Road, Grubb Road, and Winding Lane, as well as near Northgate Mall, Target, and Walmart. The city hopes to have all installations done by mid-December.
