U.S. Senate candidate, former Gov. Bredesen schedules debate at Tivoli Theater

Authored By Chloé Morrison

Former Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen, who is seeking the U.S. Senate seat that Bob Corker is vacating, has agreed to participate in a debate in Chattanooga. The event will be hosted by the Chattanooga Times Free Press at the Tivoli Theater in downtown Chattanooga on Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. “Southeast Tennessee deserves a debate that brings attention to the issues that matter most to those communities,” Bredesen said in a prepared statement. “I’m looking forward to participating in this debate to offer ideas about how we can work together to get things done for not just the urban core like Chattanooga but also surrounding communities.” Bredesen’s campaign said that while they are awaiting confirmation from opponent Rep. Marsha Blackburn, they are working with debate sponsors on more details. Campaign spokeswoman for Blackburn Abbi Sigler said the team is still finalizing their debate schedule and Blackburn is looking forward to debating Bredesen. Both Bredesen and Blackburn responded to Nooga.com candidate questionnaires which can be found here and here. The general election is Nov. 6, and the deadline to register to vote in that election is Oct. 9. The Hamilton County Election Commission has more information about voting and the upcoming election online.
