5 tips from successful Chattanooga businesses

Authored By Market Street Partners

This column is sponsored by Market Street Partners, PLLC

At Market Street Partners, we wanted to highlight the success stories of some of our clients. The tips they shared can benefit all businesses.

In July, we launched our “Why They Succeed” campaign at Market Street Partners. Maybe it has shown up in one of your social media feeds, or you’ve seen one of our advertisements here on Nooga.com.

It was the first campaign of any kind that we’ve undertaken, and we had fun doing it. The goal was to learn from some of our clients what they’ve done (and are doing) to be successful, then share those tips with the masses.

And they delivered.

Each featured client revealed a unique nugget that has contributed to their success. Of course, there are many other factors that have propelled them forward, but each one zeroed in on a specific principle — something that could benefit us all.

We encourage you to read through all of the articles, but here are highlights from each:

Dynamo VC: The Value of Empathy

Santosh Sankar directs Dynamo Venture Capital. It’s the only logistics technology venture fund in the United States, and they are helping grow some revolutionary businesses. In his position, Santosh works with numerous entrepreneurs, and from his vantage point, he’s been able to see which traits typically lead to success.

What’re the most common leadership denominators, according to Santosh? Empathy and self-reflection. He says that business leaders benefit incredibly from trying to understand the worldview of those around them, while also reflecting (objectively) on their own motives and actions.

Chattanooga Whiskey: The Significance of Situational Awareness

Chattanooga Whiskey is a household name in this area, but owner and co-founder, Tim Piersant, aims to spread the brand and its tasty libations to a much larger audience.

It’s been a wild and successful ride over at Chattanooga Whiskey so far. And Tim says much of that success has to do with situational awareness: the ability to read people and circumstances and make decisions based on those analyses.

Majestic Stone: Challenging the Status Quo

The stone industry is an old one with standard operating procedures that are begging to be updated. And that’s exactly what Majestic Stone’s CEO, Patrick Wells, is doing.

In just two years, Wells has led the company to 350% growth, a substantial boon that he hopes is just the beginning. Wells is taking the industry status quo head-on, making customer service and reliability a top priority.

Lanewood Studio: Saying “No” to Say “Yes”

When photography duo, Emily and Corey Critser, moved from Los Angeles to Chattanooga, they did so with big dreams and loads of valuable experiences. In short order, they’ve established Lanewood Studio as one of the most sought-out photography outfits in the city.

How have they done it? In large part, it’s because they aren’t scared to pass on projects that don’t align with their long-term business objectives. By doing this, they can channel all their energies into opportunities that help them meet their goals.

Reliance HCM: The Importance of Intentionality

Earlier in their careers, Ryan Davis and Jack Silberman became aware of a massive customer void just waiting to be filled. So, naturally, they filled it. Now their firm, Reliance Human Capital Management, is the only group in-market to manage employee benefits, payroll, and compliance services together.

With a young company, it’s easy to want to take on the world and all its problems. However, Ryan and Jack preach the importance of being intentional in everything they do. That way, they aren’t wasting valuable resources on efforts that don’t yield quality returns.

Each installment in our “Why They Succeed” series offers an inside glimpse of some well-known Chattanooga businesses. More importantly, though, they offer ways the rest of us can better operate our businesses.

Give them a read. You’ll be glad you did.
