If you missed it, Chattanooga was recently ranked 30 out of 150 cities for freelancers. It’s 2019, and most of us have had to navigate working remotely in some capacity. Trista here, and I know I love the flexibility my job offers to step away from the office on those days I just need a change of scenery.

Whether you’re working a half-day from home here and there or you’re in a full-time remote gig, you guys are doing the work, so you know which coffee shops + co-working spaces are most conducive to getting it done. That’s why we asked you what your typical remote day looks like and what changes you’d like to see that could move us up city ranks.

Y’all overwhelmingly want to see more co-working spaces, specifically a work café, because many of you feel that coffee shops can be too loud. This hybrid meeting space would offer coffee and food but would be designed with workers in mind, meaning you’d find plenty of outlets, rooms specifically for meetings or phone calls + services like printing and scanning. Sounds like a place I could comfortably spend eight hours.

Here are a few other suggestions. 👇

  • Communities for freelancers — specifically for female and female-identifying freelancers
  • More places to stand up and work
  • A freelancer sticker that freelancers can put on their laptops so they know their “fellows”
  • More places open late for those who work better at night
  • Better parking options

Bonus: One of our readers uses the Main Terrain Art Park to get their work done. Word on the street is that it’s never very crowded, but the secret’s out now. 😉

This conversation isn’t over yet — these were just a few of the suggestions, and y’all gave us a lot of good tips, too, so you can expect a guide to freelancing in Chattanooga soon. 🙌
