SeaLight Festival coming to Sculpture Fields at Montague Park

Things are looking extra bright over at Sculpture Fields at Montague Park.

Illuminated sculpture of a tree-like figure with a human face at night, featuring glowing green foliage and colorful lanterns resembling flowers and fruits. The figure’s face is detailed with vines and plants forming its features. Bright floral and animal-shaped lanterns surround the sculpture.

Some lanterns depict Chinese legends and lore, while others celebrate the beauty of nature.

If you’ve driven by Sculpture Fields at Montague Park recently, you may have noticed some new additions to the park’s usual sculptures — hundreds of handmade Chinese lanterns, to be exact.

These bright new works of art are here for the SeaLight Festival, which will open to the public on Thursday, Feb. 20.

The festival will run Thursday through Sunday evenings from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. until Sunday, April 20. There will be fun for all ages, including live entertainment every night from the Zigong Acrobatic Troupe — expect juggling, balancing, and even face-changing.

Glowing yellow duck-shaped lanterns arranged in rows at night. Each duck has round eyes and smiling beaks. In the background, larger lanterns resembling various animals and futuristic creatures are also illuminated.

Don’t skip a photo-op with the different lanterns.
