After closing in April to expand, one of downtown’s favorite pizza places—Lupi’s—is open for business Tuesday.

Owner Dorris Shober thought the Broad Street restaurant could reopen by July but she found out it needed a sprinkler system. Installation of the system delayed the opening.

“We are thrilled to be re-opening and serving our customers again,” she said. “We miss them very much.”

The business doubled its space by taking over the former Greyfriar’s Coffee & Tea Co. location next door, which has been empty for a couple of years.

The new kitchen is about three times larger than the former space, and the business’ seating capacity is nearly doubled, too.

“We were truly busting at the seams and we were asked to do a lot more business than we could out of that space, including catering,” Shober said.
