It’s National Volunteer Week, and we’re excited to shine light on a new, local non-profitRise Up Cooperative.

Rise Up volunteers teach life skills to at-risk youth (13-23 years old) through free virtual classes offered via Zoom on Tuesdays, 7-8 p.m. Plus, there’s a mentorship program coming in fall 2021, family workshops, and seminars for parents or adults working with teens.

Some of the classes include:

  • Finance + money management
  • How to use public transportation
  • Communication
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Leadership skills
  • Conflict resolution
  • Time management
  • Health — first aid, nutrition, etc.

And those are just a few of the classes. If you think you can teach a useful skill, let co-founder Sandy Pricer know via email.

Sandy currently needs volunteers with the following experience:

  • Fundraising
  • Marketing background or know-how
  • IT + web design knowledge
  • Love for outdoor adventures

She also needs:

  • Volunteers who would be interested in teaching online and in-person classes (coming soon)
  • An attorney to sit on a Q+A panel in May
  • A location to borrow or rent for classes
  • Donations — money, school supplies, and snacks
