Newest on the court of local sports: Chattanooga Strike

The Scenic City is now a part of the historic American Basketball Association — meet the team.

Basketball players huddled around the coach in a timeout session on the court wearing white jerseys that say "Strike" on it.

The Chattanooga Strike has had the highest attendance rates of ABA South teams — join the masses.

There’s a new semi-professional sports team dribbling its way through the Scenic City. Let us introduce you to Chattanooga Strike, the latest team to join 170 others in the American Basketball Association (ABA).

Founded by city employee of the Office of the Mayor Seth Davis, this team is comprised of 13 athletes that come from the Greater Chattanooga area + Northwest Georgia. Davis said the support from the community has been eye opening, showing that a basketball team on this level was needed in our local sports sphere.

“Looking at it from that hometown feel where the fans get to see their own talent [...] I think that was pretty enticing to me,” said Davis. “The experience that the ABA is able to create, our focus is much more granular to the community, I think it’s complimentary of each other.”

While they might be new to the ABA, with the help of Head Coach Melvin Williams, they broke into the national rankings after opening weekend at the end of October. Now, the team’s current stats sit at a national ranking of No. 23, after defeating the No. 12 team (and have a 3-1 win-loss record).

You can cheer on the Chattanooga Strike from its home court, Midtown Arena, at nine more home games through the season (which concludes in February). Tickets start at $12.

Bonus: Local music artists will be featured during the Max Xperience Halftime Shows, like rapper Coogi Doogi.
