The waiting list for the Chattanooga Housing Authority’s voucher program is about to reopen for 24 hours. The Housing Choice Voucher program is a federal government program for assisting low-income families, the elderly and the disabled to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market. The program uses an online lottery system to choose voucher recipients. The online applications for the voucher program will open at 12:01 a.m. on Sept. 13 and close at 11:59 p.m. that day. The housing authority will post a link to the application on its webpage. Director of the Housing Choice Voucher Program Tammie Carpenter said in a prepared statement”

With this type of lottery system, there is no advantage based on date and time for the submission of an application. The order of the waiting list will be determined by random selection through third-party software. At noon on September 20, the applicants who have randomly been assigned numbers one to 1,000 will be placed on the HCVP waiting list.

Each applicant may only submit one application for the lottery. If the Chattanooga Housing Authority receives more than one application for an applicant, they will be disqualified from the lottery. Paper applications will be neither accepted nor available, but computers and assistance will be available at the Chattanooga Housing Authority’s office at 801 N. Holtzclaw Ave. from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
