“Saved By the Bell” playing cards, a Popeye piggy bank + Tasmanian devil slippers are just a few of the items you might find this weekend at the 127 Yard Sale.

Countless vendors gather atop Signal Mountain and Lookout Mountain for the annual event, dubbed the World’s Longest Yard Sale, to sell anything and everything to eager passers-by. The shopping continues through Sunday evening. And, yeah, you can find just about anything: “authentic” bigfoot fur, VHS tapes (for use in a VCR), questionable antiques … think of it and you can buy it.

If you’ve got a full tank of gas and no responsibilities keeping you in town, sales can be found for nearly 690 miles along the corridor, from Gadsden, Alabama, to Addison, Michigan. The sale started in Jamestown, TN (Fentress County) as a way to get people off the main highway and into small towns on side roads. It quickly grew into a larger, destination event.

Beginning locally along Lookout Mountain Parkway, the trail travels through downtown Chattanooga along Highway 127 to Signal Mountain to Dunlap. The Chattanooga area is also home to several “major vendor” collectives — many of which contain 30 to 45 vendors at one location. These locations are also known as tent cities. Here’s a map of the best places for shopping near us.

ProTips:

Remember to haggle a little with the sellers. Stretch your yard sale dollars further by talking down the prices.

— Don’t spend too much time in one place because there is so much.

— Concentrate on the “tent cities” along the route (see above).

— Ask the vendors about the stories behind the items you are interested in.

— Bring plenty of water and snacks because you may be in the middle of nowhere.
