Table of Contents

No matter your age, we all know Chattanooga is a great place to call home. But today, in honor of the Scenic City’s older population (and the multiple asks we’ve received from our readers) we’re highlighting activities in our community that are available for adults 55+.

🧘 Yoga

Yoga Landing offers several kinds of classes + workshops such as Yin, Restorative, and Gentle Yoga which is appropriate for all ages + perfect for anyone looking for a more restful approach.

🏓 Pickleball

Pickleball shares similarities with tennis, table tennis + badminton, and is a whole lot of fun. Indoor courts are available for play at the Chattanooga Convention Center, and Red Bank recently unveiled its outdoor Pickleball courts. You can also join a league and compete competitively with the Tennessee Senior Olympics team. (Bonus: if Pickleball isn’t your thing, there are tons of other sports for you to participate in.)

🐦 Birdwatching

Head to Reflection Riding Arboretum & Nature Center, Audubon Acres, or Maclellan Island for a local hike paired with bird watching. Reach out to local experts at the Chattanooga Audubon Society or join the local Chattanooga Birding Club so you don’t fly solo.

💃 Dancing

For those who like getting their groove on or are looking to learn different styles of dance, Dance Tonight Chattanooga offers a wide array of group dance classes appropriate for all ages. Learn two-step, swing dance, salsa, and even hula dance.

🥾 Hiking

We know the Chattanooga Riverwalk isn’t technically a hike, but this 13-mile accessible walking path that follows the Tennessee River is a great place to get some fresh air. If you’re looking to get more out into nature, we recommend the hikes to Rainbow Lake + Stringer’s Ridge. Check out some of our hiking guides for more options.

Looking for additional sources for older adults? Check out the Chattanooga Senior Activities Facebook page for local events + resources for the community. You can also get involved with some of Chattanooga’s community centers or Boomers and Shakers for other activities.
