This conversation started with us listening to what you were saying on Twitter about bringing Whataburger to Chattanooga. 🍔

When we asked specifically about Whataburger, several Texas natives came through with strong opinions. ⬇️

“I’m from Texas. Got to be Whataburger. Closest one now is in Birmingham.” — Keith G.

But it quickly became clear that Whataburger had some competition in our readers’ minds.

So we used a poll to see what burger you’d bring here if you had your way.

🍔 The poll results

39% voted for Whataburger.

45% voted for In-N-Out.

4% took your life in your own hands and chose White Castle over Krystal, which locals love + love to hate.

12% of you had other thoughts you emailed us.

🍔 Other burger ideas

“I vote Shake Shack!” — Hannah O.

“Need a Culvers Badly.” — David B.

“Wahlburgers.” — Kenneth S.

“Due to making healthy choices, the only fast food I go to is Chick-fil-A - love their grilled chicken wraps … Fatburger, however, has a really good turkey burger - pricey, but good. When I lived in Vegas Fatburger was there. I guess as long as any of these establishments have healthy options, I’m in, but typically, they don’t have high quality ingredients.”
— Bonnie S.

🍔 Other food

Some people wrote to us and said they don’t care about burgers they want a Trader Joe’s or other types of food.

“Forget all of the burger hype, we’re still holding out for Chipotle!— Carmen W.

“We have plenty of great burger places across all price-points. What Chattanooga desperately needs is a good fish restaurant … Let’s catch a Pappadeaux or King’s Fish House. (Sorry, Red Lobster doesn’t count. That’s like half a percent better than Captain D’s).” — Charlie B.

🍔 Forget chains

“I want to support the local burger places. We have really good options - Tremont, Slicks, [ZarZour’s], Dub’s. And, we have 5 Guys - a chain. #supportlocalburgers” — Lawrence M.
