We’re fans of New Year’s resolutions here at NOOGAtoday because it’s important to put yourself out there and learn new things. (Check out our goal-setting tips.)

Getting outside your comfort zone is what fosters personal growth, so even if things don’t go exactly as planned, you’ll still be a better person for having tried.

So with that in mind, here are seven classes to help expand your minds in the new year. 📚

Chattanooga School of Language 💬

Learning a new language is an item that commonly finds itself on New Year’s resolution lists, but trying to do this one on your own can be a little daunting. So, taking lessons might make that a little easier. The Chattanooga School of Language offers a wide variety of languages ranging from common languages like American Sign Language and Spanish to less common ones like Japanese and Russian. Prices vary and are determined by a variety of variables.

Chattanooga Ballet Adult Classes 💃🏽

This one may not appeal to everyone, but ballet is a great way to get exercise and build muscle while being a little creative. The next term begins Feb. 11 and runs through April 27. The price for the term is $135 for one class per week and $195 for two classes per week.

Dance Tonight Ballroom Dancing Lessons 👠

This is another dance option for those who are looking to do some moving and grooving. Dance Tonight offers lessons in salsa, bachata, merengue, the foxtrot, the waltz, the tango and several other dance styles. Prices range based on membership status, whether the lessons are private or taken in a group setting and how many lessons the student wants.

UTC Center for Professional Education 🖥️

UTC offers a variety of online classes for adults looking to spruce up one of their skills. Classes range in topics from accounting and finance basics to graphic design and grant writing. There are also medical classes. UTC also offers a variety of professional certification classes. Prices range from $99 to $115.

The Sweet and Savory Classroom Cooking Classes 🍳

Want to learn how to cook your own steakhouse dinner or your own fancy ramen dish? This may be a good way to learn how. You pay by the class and prices range from $50 to $195.

The Chattery Classes 🍺

The Chattery is a local organization that loves to teach Chattanoogans new things by offering classes that stimulate both your right and left brain. Classes include topics like Excel, beer-making, macrame, poetry, soap-making and calligraphy. Prices range by the class and materials needed.

Women Repair Zone 🔨

This organization aims to break down the “societal inequity where too few women know how to do basic home improvement and auto maintenance skills.” Their classes teach women these skills and how to complete projects in the comfort of a room full of other women. Prices vary.
