Hundreds of self-proclaimed film nerds + cinephiles will descend upon the Chattanooga Theatre Centre + Moxy Chattanooga for the upcoming Chattanooga Film Festival April 11-14.

There really isn’t anything else like the CFF in our city, and that’s why the annual event is always one of the most treasured each year. Love horror movies, weird indie films and award-winning shorts? You’re going to have a blast.

How do you get in on the action? Well, the diehards will purchase a weekend pass and spend 72+ hours enjoying all the programming packed into the schedule. Badges start at $40 (if you want to see just a few films) and you can get everything — including the after parties — for $200.

But most people aren’t diehards, so organizers have made it easy to purchase single tickets for many of the screenings/programs. Expect more than 20 films, shorts, a boat party, after parties + surprise secret screenings.

Here are our top picks for the 2019 festival:

An Evening with Joe Bob Briggs: How Rednecks Saved Hollywood | Thu., April 11 | 8 p.m. | $25 | Using more than 200 clips and stills, Joe Bob Briggs (known as “The Patron Saint” of the CFF) reviews the history of rednecks in America as told through the classics of both exploitation and mainstream movies.

Crispin Hellion Glover’s Big Slide Show | Fri., April 12 | 7:30 p.m. | $15 | Crispin Hellion Glover (yeah, that guy) performs a one-hour dramatic narration of eight different profusely illustrated books. The images from the books are projected behind Mr. Glover during his performance.

Everything is Terrible | Sat., April 13 | 7 p.m. | $15 | This is one of those “see to believe” kind of events that belies description. Everything is Terrible is a duo of found footage archivists who take the best of the worst and, somehow, edit the footage into something surreal and hilarious. Check out their YouTube channel or an idea of what to expect.
