Restaurants in Chattanooga and Nashville are collaborating to help the Land Trust for Tennessee and highlight the farm-to-table movement.
On Sept. 16, a group of restaurants-18 from Chattanooga and 39 from Nashville-will donate at least 10 percent of the day’s sales to the Land Trust for Tennessee in support of the organization’s protection of local farms and natural landscapes.
In its third year, the event, called Eat Green for Tennessee, has gained momentum, more than doubled the number of participating restaurants from Nashville and expanded to Chattanooga for the first time.
The Land Trust for Tennessee has protected nearly 100,000 acres of green space in Tennessee, including public parks and family farms.
Nearly 40,000 of these protected acres are in the regions surrounding Chattanooga, including Fiery Gizzard, Lost Cove, parts of the Mountain Goat Trail, Blythe Ferry on the Hiawassee Refuge and other natural areas.
Agriculture makes up $20 billion of the state’s economy and sustains 200,000 jobs, according to the Land Trust for Tennessee. The loss of more than 15 percent of Tennessee farms between 2007 and 2014 is an important issue that affects every Tennessee community, officials with the organization said in a news release.
The organization also supports tourism, outdoor recreation, cultural heritage and local food production through permanent land conservation.
Chattanooga’s participating restaurants are 1885 Grill, 212 Market, Alleia, Clyde’s on Main, Community Pie, Easy Bistro & Bar, The Flying Squirrel, Good Dog, Lupi’s Pizza Pies, Main Street Meats, Milk and Honey, Mojo Burrito, Public House, Slick’s Burgers, St. John’s/Meeting Place, Taco Mamacita, Two Ten Jack and Urban Stack.
