River City Co., the Chattanooga Design Studio, and the City of Chattanooga are asking Chattanoogans to help create a comprehensive and visionary plan for Broad Street’s future.

How would you reimagine Broad Street?

If Broad Street were to be completely reimagined, what would you want it to look like?

That’s the question the City of Chattanooga, Chattanooga Design Studio, and River City Co. are asking.

And we know you have answers. In fact, we seem to recall a few of you having some opinions about the future of Broad Street recently...

Why are they asking this question, though? It’s part of the planning process to create a comprehensive and visionary plan for Broad Street’s future, one that is more pedestrian-friendly (seriously, we’re getting deja vu) and supports the revival of downtown. Your feedback will guide improvements on the street from MLK Boulevard to Aquarium Way.

So, what could it look like? Well, we don’t see any need to hold back on creativity, but if you want inspiration, here are some of the topics that the plan seeks to address:

  • Public realm improvements
  • Multi-modal transportation enhancements
  • Integrating technology, green infrastructure, parking + economic development opportunities
  • Supporting existing businesses + urban residents

Now through Nov. 30, community members can provide feedback via an online survey + take part in design charrettes, lunchtime listening sessions, online forums, and neighborhood meetings.

The first of these community sessions will take place at the Downtown Council of the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce (Thurs., Oct. 6 from 7:30-9 a.m.), and will feature more info on the project + other downtown redevelopment updates. Registration is $15 and includes breakfast, but if you can’t make it, a recording of the meeting will be available online the following day.

So what are you waiting for? Let’s get to reimagining Broad Street, why don’t we.
