You’ve been hearing announcements on various developments coming to the area next year. In case you skimmed over some of the groundbreaking news, here’s a quick recap:

South Chick Creek Greenway | Scheduled to open in 2022 | This 20+ years-long project is finally slated to completely open in 2022. The trail features a recreational opportunity in an often-overlooked part of the Chattanooga area, in addition to a viable transportation route for many — it can even get you from downtown to Camp Jordan via bike in 12 miles.

Airport Expansion | Construction tentatively beginning spring 2022 | The airport announced an expansion set to begin in 2022 that will add 60,000+ sq ft of space to the terminals, more gates and restrooms, an additional security lane + a new restaurant.

John Ross Building | Scheduled for completion mid-2022 | Downtown’s historic John Ross building (at the corner of 4th + Market) is set to undergo a multimillion dollar renovation and turn into an office space, with some unknown preliminary tenants already found.

Lodge Cast Iron Museum | Scheduled to open late summer 2022 | Coming to the home of Lodge Cast Iron in nearby South Pittsburg, the cast iron museum will offer a series of interactive experiences for visitors through three exhibits — How It’s Made, The Lodge History and Legacy, and Cast Iron Culture. The museum is also set to feature the world’s largest cast iron skillet.

Slim & Husky’s Pizza Beeria | Renderings by River Street Architecture

MLK Slim & Husky’s | Scheduled to open spring 2022 | Nashville-based Slim & Husky’s Pizza Beeria is set to anchor the mixed-use development on MLK Boulevard. The pizza + beer joint will have a full bar, a stage, and may even feature walls painted by a local artist.

Chattanooga Construction Career Center | Scheduled to open August 2022 | East Chattanooga’s former Mary Ann Garber School is set to become a trade school for local 11th + 12th graders and adults. The school — which will also become the first zero-carbon trade school worldwide — plans to guarantee participating students a workforce job by graduation.
