Last July, we shared news of the groundbreaking of the South Broad mixed-use stadium, a long-awaited project aimed at reanimating the South Broad District.

We recently joined Chattanooga Lookouts President Rich Mozingo for a tour of the site — so grab your hard hats as we dive into an update on construction.

Mozingo said the stadium remains on budget and on time, with a slated opening in April 2026. Since the summer, crews have moved over 100,000 yards of dirt + 10,500 yards of concrete. Additionally, crews are working with 1,000 tons of structural steel on the site as they begin building vertically.

We stood at the future home of the Home Plate Club, overlooking the field. One thing we’re particularly excited about is the positioning of the field — the sun will no longer set in your face, as the center field is looking due east.

“It’s amazing the amount of detail that goes into a project like this and that’s really blown me away,” said Lookouts President Rich Mozingo.

Also on our tour, Mozingo showed us some of the historical buildings that will be repurposed, like the powerhouse building that was built in 1882, which will become the main entrance of the ballpark.

“We want to give a nod to the people who have been here for years and years and what they have meant to our city,” he said.

The old pattern shop (located along the first base line) will house restaurants and offices + will have a second floor with 14,000 sqft of meeting spaces, with the ability to serve as an event venue (think: small concerts and weddings). Bricks from the old buildings will also be restored and reused throughout the site.

Mozingo said what is happening on the site will continue to be the catalyst for the development of this community.

“It’s a development of 400 plus acres around the ballpark... parts of Chattanooga that have not seen the love that other parts of Chattanooga have seen over the last 25, 30 years,” he said. “It’s really going to reinvigorate this side of town.”

To keep up with the latest on the project, check out the South Broad Chattanooga website. Bonus: You can watch the live stream to see real-time construction of the ballpark.
