Celebrating the Chattanooga LGBTQ+ community through the arts

Here are two ways to get out and show pride within the local LGBTQ+ community this summer.

Three vibrant paintings on a wall: left, a human bust with a cracked skull; top, an orange house; right, a figure holding two fetus-like forms. Bold colors and surreal themes.

There’s a space for everyone in the Scenic City.

Each June, communities band together to honor Pride Month + Chattanooga is no different. While there are several events happening around town, today we’re showcasing two ways you can explore the local arts scene while also celebrating your fellow LGBTQ+ residents.

ClearStory Arts

Now through Saturday, June 28, this Southside gallery is hosting Tennessee’s only Pride-themed gallery exhibition “We Were Always Here.”

With the help of the Chattanooga Queer Empowerment Collective, the installation showcases over 100 artists from the Tennessee River Valley, all exploring themes of “queerness in nature + the possibility of a liberated future.” City Editor Haley recommends taking the time to see all of the small details, especially the collage pieces.

Scenic City Clay Arts

You can join this local pottery studio at Joli Jardin on Saturday, June 21 for its “From Bricks to Blooms” event honoring the legacy of the Stonewall bricks. For $40, you can pick a time slot + personalize ceramic bricks with paints and select blooms that can be displayed inside.
