If you notice your power bills fluctuating with the summer heat, you’re not alone.

#TryThis: A home energy checkup with EPB Energy Pros, in which an expert will conduct a complimentary in-person or virtual analysis of your home + leave you with a detailed report of ways you can improve on energy efficiency.

What we tried (with pricing):

Editor Trista here, and I recently filled out a consultation form to have an EPB Energy Pro come to my house and help us find ways to be more efficient with our energy. It was easy to fill out, and an Energy Pro was able to conduct the free analysis just 2 weeks after I submitted the request.

Once the EPB Energy Pro, Ron, arrived at my house, he called to let me know he was here and said he would begin the home energy checkup outside before looking at the interior.

What happened next:

Upon entering the house, Ron handed me a box of freebies including caulk, foam insulation, lightbulbs, a night light + more. He then asked me a few questions, like what we keep our thermostat at and when the house was built + for permission to conduct a full analysis of all the rooms.

He looked at energy-sucks like window insulation, any places where air comes in or escapes, and appliances, including our water heater + refrigerator.

After the inspection, Ron went back to his vehicle and wrote a full, detailed report (with pictures) + gave our house a score of 3 out of 5. He also included a detailed list of ways we can improve our energy efficiency and came back inside to talk me through some of the problem areas so I had a better understanding of what to fix.

What not to miss:

You can walk alongside the EPB Energy Pro as they analyze your home to see exactly what they’re looking for + ask questions about anything you don’t understand.

What we’re still talking about:

The box of freebies. Many of the problems addressed can be fixed with the products EPB provided, like the window insulating kit + door caulk. There’s even an online video series that talks you through the process of some basic projects.

How you can experience this:

Fill out the online consultation form or give EPB a call at (423) 648-1372.
