Hey, NOOGA. Sean here. I’m what you would call a casual baseball fan, so attending a Chattanooga Lookouts game is partly about the game (Go team!) and partly about hanging out with friends + family and having a good time.
So, a few weeks ago, I headed over to AT&T Field with my wife, Monica, for a Thirsty Thursday night of fun to watch the Lookouts take on the Jackson Generals (it also happened to be “Parrothead Night,” so Jimmy Buffet fans were everywhere). The Lookouts offer pure fun for the entire family, so of course we had a blast. I even got to show off my air guitar “talents,” much to the dismay of my wife.
Here’s what went down — and why you should #TryThis.
Experience:
Chattanooga Lookouts Thirsty Thursday
What we tried (with pricing):
About 25-minutes before the game, we parked along the Riverfront and walked up the hill to AT&T Field. It was a hot night, so after we got our tickets ($20 for two lower box seats, $10/ticket day-of) we beelined straight for the Big River Beer Garden and the Budweiser Party Deck. The multi-leveled deck might offer the best views in the entire park + we loved watching the first few innings from our perch along the third base line, beer in hand. Batter up!
The Budweiser Party Deck is also an awesome place to watch warm-ups before the game. We had a couple of Southern Flyer Light brews ($2 each on Thirsty Thursday) and observed players go through pre-game stretches and stuck around for the national anthem and the first few pitches. You really get a bird’s-eye view of the action from up there. We could’ve stayed there all night, but our seats were calling.
We sat directly behind home plate for a couple of reasons. Sure, we wanted to watch the game up close, but we also didn’t want to worry about foul balls wrecking our faces. A nice perk was that our seats were next to a group of apparent Major League Baseball scouts who had all this fancy camera equipment and software. We left them alone, but it was neat to watch them observe the game.
During the third inning, we got the munchies. Fortunately, the food at AT&T Field is like a smorgasbord of everything you could want at a ballpark: hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken, ice cream, peanuts, popcorn etc. We each got a chicken finger basket ($6 each) and a couple of Corona Extra cans ($2 each) for the duration of the game.
Don’t miss:
You could easily stretch your dollars and have a great time at AT&T on any night, but this Thirsty Thursday deal is no joke. The night features $1 draught domestics, $2 Big River Craft Beer and $1 fountain soft drinks. Cheap. Good. Beer. The deal is also available throughout the park at various locations, so you’re always within reach of a cheap beer.
What we’re still talking about:
My wife is constantly on edge in public because she’s afraid I’m going to embarrass her by doing something weird. So, when the staff invited me to participate in the 7th Inning “Air Guitar Contest,” I jumped at the chance. The staff handed me an inflatable guitar and I went totally bonkers to Van Halen’s “Panama.” In my eyes, it was a perfect closer to a wonderful date night with the wife. I even caught the eye of professional game photographers (see below). Monica and I can’t wait to come back to another game, especially if I don’t participate in an in-game contest. 😄
How you can experience this:
If you’re ready to throw on your Lookouts jersey and head to AT&T Field, you’re in luck. The Lookouts still have one series left on the schedule this year. Their next home game is Fri., Aug. 23 against the Montgomery Biscuits. The series continues through the weekend with the last game on Tues., Aug. 27 at 7:15 p.m.
