MLK Beer + Bites event a highlight of Wine Over Water weekend

The 24th annual Wine Over Water celebration has grown from a single Saturday fundraiser each October into a weekend of events for fans of food, wine, beer and, of course, historic preservation.

The marquee Wine Over Water event, as well as the newer Off the Bridge events, benefit the city’s only nonprofit historic preservation organization, Cornerstones Inc., which has continually worked with the community to help save and preserve important Chattanooga buildings.

One new Off the Bridge event this year is the MLK Beer and Bites Party, which will be on the porch and lawn outside of 2 Sons Market & Kitchen (422 E. MLK Blvd.) on Oct. 5 from 7 -11 p.m. Guests can enjoy bites from 2 Sons and The Bitter Alibi + drinks from OddStory Brewing Co. and Chattanooga Whiskey + music from Rye Baby.

At $35 per person, the MLK Beer and Bites Party is the most wallet-friendly option for locals wanting to take part in the weekend.

This is just the second year for an Off the Bridge event on the historic MLK Boulevard stretch.

“The new Off the Bridge approach is about letting people experience historic buildings, spaces and places,” Ann Gray, executive director of Cornerstones Inc., said. “We will always have MLK on our list.”

All of the Off the Bridge events will bring people away from the Walnut Street Bridge (which is still the home of Saturday’s Wine Over Water) and to some of Chattanooga’s most historic properties.

Many of those properties are older buildings that have been re-adapted for modern use.

“Eventually, we want to do more of these in the future,” Gray said. “Our hope is we can do some Off the Bridge events throughout the year ... always have something happening.”

This year’s Wine Over Water tickets are $80 and all food + wine is included in the ticket price.
