Kids, have we ever told you the story of how we met our favorite neighborhood bars? Downtown’s spots are great, but sometimes, you just need your own comfortable neighborhood pub like the HIMYM gang has at MacLaren’s.

With the spinoff “How I Met Your Father” expected to air next month, we thought it’d be an opportune time to highlight some local neighborhood restaurants, bars, and coffee shops.

Brainerd

Your Local Seitanist, 3950 Brainerd Rd. | This joint offers some seriously insane vegan brunch + coffee options — we recommend the vegan caramel latte.

Hatch Outfitters, 3227 Brainerd Rd. | Did you know that this fly shop doubles as a beer bar? It’s meant to be a communal spot for people to have a beer + talk fishing.

Herman’s Soul Food, 3821 Brainerd Rd. | Herman’s offers the comfort food of your dreams, from smothered pork chops to turnip greens.

Glass Farms

Allgood’s, 2420 Glass St. | Allgood’s used bookstore + coffee shop is our favorite rainy day spot to cuddle up with a drink (we love the caramel banana latte) and a book.

MP Sports Bar & Grill, 2716 Dodson Ave. | This local sports bar is the place to catch a game, or enjoy karaoke + comedy nights.

Lois’s Restaurant, 3013 Dodson Ave. | Miss Lois is well known for her famous chitterlings.

Riverview

Book & Cover, 1310 Hanover St. | Stop in for a comfy and aesthetically-pleasing spot to browse books, find a nook to read, and enjoy coffee + pastries.

Rosecomb Bar, 921 Barton Ave. | Self-dubbed a “neighborhood pub,” this spot inside of an old home gives the perfect familiar pub vibes — that outdoor garden doesn’t hurt, either.

Tremont Tavern, 1203 Hixson Pike | While it’s gained popularity over the years, Tremont Tavern’s beginnings as a local watering hole remain strong.

St. Elmo

Goodman Coffee Roasters, 3913 St. Elmo Ave. | The St. Elmo location is connected to the roasting facility — aka, you’ll get some prime coffeehouse smells.

The Woodshop, 5500 St. Elmo | This neighborhood bar often hosts live music, corner markets, record nights, and various other community-based events.

Mr. T’s Pizza & Ice Cream, 3924 Tennessee Ave. | Mr. T’s offers those classic retro pizza joint vibes.
