Scene: You + a friend in the near future

“I can’t stand being cooped up in the house anymore. I’m losing my mind,” a friend texts you.

You respond, “I know. It’s already been a long winter, huh?”

“Yeah, I just wish I knew of something new to try out.”

“You know, I just read something in NOOGAtoday about a city program called Outdoor Chattanooga. They have all kinds of activities and guides. Wanna pick one we can do together?”

“OMG. Yes. Please.”

And in a few days, you and your friend are attending a camp cooking 101 class virtually so you can plan a weekend camping trip and get out of the house.

Yeah, it’s that easy.

Outdoor Chattanooga is part of the City of Chattanooga’s Department of Economic and Community Development. We live in one of the best outdoor cities, so the mission of the organization is to connect you with nature, whether that be paddling, climbing, or wildlife watching.

Right now, Outdoor Chattanooga is offering winter workshops. For the more intense outdoorsman or woman, you can learn to build a shelter for wilderness survival or get a grasp on backpacking, and for those just wanting to get outside a little more, there’s hiking or fishing 101.

And if you’re set on staying inside until winter ends, there’s plenty more to check out when it’s warm out.
