If you ever wanted to know what it feels like to walk inside an oven — just open your front door.

It’s been a hot week in Chattanooga. The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for our area with a “feels-like temperature” of 107 degrees.

When the temperatures and humidity levels are this high, heat illness is a real concern.

How to stay safe

  • Stay inside during the hottest part of the day (between 10 a.m.-4 p.m.).
  • Drink lots of water to stay hydrated, even if you’re not feeling thirsty.
  • Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing.
  • Take immediate action when you see possible symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
