It’s been a little over a month since Market South opened, finally giving Chattanooga a food hall and adding to the vibrancy of the Southside. Along with the three restaurants, coffee bar + test kitchen, a new brewery also opened in the space — Five Wits Brewing Company. 🍻

Five Wits was started by Nate Michaels, a Chattanooga native who moved back home from Denver last year, and the two head-brewers, Elliot Kehoe + Bryan Harris. Nate was visiting his parents during the holidays a couple years ago and saw how much the city had grown. He took the idea to start a brewery here back to Elliot and Bryan in Denver, and the rest is history.

Chattanooga’s brewery scene is growing, and while we’re still not Asheville, there’s a budding community of craft brewers creating something special here. Five Wits is just the most recent addition. And hey, while we’re at it, can we get a craft cidery around here? 🍏

Here are five things you need to know about Five Wits Brewing.

  1. Five Wits is a Shakespearian reference to the five senses — the brewers want you to have a sensory experience while enjoying their craft. 🍺
  2. Their best-selling beer is the Sunblaze, the bridge between a juicy West Coast IPA and an earthy IPA. The saison, brown ale + Mexican lager are also early favorites.
  3. They plan on rolling out canned beers in 2020, so keep your eyes peeled, your ears open + and your tastebuds ready. (Ya know, tap into your senses, as they say.) 👀
  4. They’re interested in collaborating with the other breweries in town, and as a way to show their support, they have two “share the love” guest taps.
  5. They’re planning a mini beer festival for Mainx24 (Dec. 17) — more details on that soon. 🙌

Oh, and while you’re sipping a Sunblaze you can also order some food from Lil Oso, the current tenant in the R&D Test Kitchen. Southside just got a little cooler. 😎
