Bon matin, Chattanooga. ⚜️ And happy Mardi Gras.

In celebration of Fat Tuesday, we’ve rounded up some local places where you can pick up a king cake + the best New Orleans-inspired Chattanooga restaurants to grub at before Ash Wednesday.

Wondering why we eat king cake during the Mardi Gras season + what its significance is? More about that here.

⚜️ King cakes

B’s Sweets, 715 Signal Mountain Rd. | B’s Sweets has a variety of king cake flavors + small and large options.

Jackson Bakery, 5862 Brainerd Rd. | Jackson Bakery sells traditional king cakes complete with decorative beads on top.

Koch’s bakery, 1900 Broad St. | Historically, Koch’s Bakery has offered seasonal King Cakes each year that are packaged in party boxes and, of course, feature a little baby inside.

Rembrandt’s, 204 High St. | Pre-order ended on Feb. 13, but there is a limited number available without pre-order — or, grab your own personal mini king cake + laissez les bon temps rouler.

Tasty Donuts, 1414 Jenkins Rd. + 9448 Bradmore Ln. | Mini king cake donuts are available daily through Feb. 16 + large king cakes are available by pre order.

⚜️ New Orleans-inspired food

Blue Orleans, 1463 Market St. | It’s called Blue Orleans for a reason — this New Orleans-inspired restaurant features favorites like seafood gumbo and rice, crawfish etouffee, and Creole red beans + rice.

*ICYMI, Blue Orleans is also getting financial assistance from The Barstool Fund, and if you haven’t seen their heartwarming reaction video yet, you can watch it here. ❤️

Parkway Pourhouse, 801 Riverfront Pkwy. | Start with some cajun boiled peanuts, add a bayou burger, and top it all off with a side of gumbo or red beans + rice.

Gumbo’s, 5123 Hixson Pike | This cajun-creole restaurant serves its Louisiana-style cuisine in “bowls as big as the bayou.”

Ruby Sunshine, 405 Market St.| This brunch spot that originated in New Orleans features meals inspired by its hometown like bayou shrimp + seasonal beignets. (Check out how editors Chloe + Trista brunched at Ruby Sunshine here.)

Boil Shack Seafood, 5401 Brainerd Rd. | Boil Shack has a variety of options to curb your Mardi Gras food hankering (we’re especially intrigued by the cajun fries).

Pier 88 Boiling Seafood & Bar, 2288 Gunbarrel Rd. | Known for its low-country boil, Pier 88’s menu definitely features some New Orleans-inspired flavors.

Neutral Ground in Proof Bar + Incubator, 422 E. MLK Blvd. | Described as a “modern New Orleans style po-boy and yakamein” restaurant, Neutral Ground serves up housemade Louisiana hot sausage po-boys, smoked oyster mushroom po-boys, and more.

Low Country Cajun Seafood, Food truck | This Cleveland-based food truck has a mix of low-country South Carolina, Louisiana, and Delta-inspired food like fried shrimp and sausage poutine.
