There’s no getting around it: It’s hot, Chattanooga.

The dog days of summer bring along excessive heat warnings and 90° temperatures, so we’re staying inside and looking back at some of the headlines on the hottest days we’ve had here in the Scenic City.

The day the heat set records

Chattanooga’s hottest day on record took place on July 1, 2012, when temperatures hit a record-breaking 107°.

That sure puts this weather in perspective, huh? The closest we’ve come to that temperature in the past few weeks was when temps got to 97° on Thursday, Aug. 8.

What the headlines said

So, what else was going on in Chattanooga on the hottest day on record? The Chattanooga Times Free Press was reporting on the construction of holistic medicine facility The Center on Main Street (now the home of Center MedSpa).

The paper also covered the intense weather we were having at the time, saying 16 Tennessee counties were experiencing record-breaking heat amid the over 100° days across the region.

How to weather the weather today

Okay, so we’re not breaking records (yet), but that doesn’t mean braving this weather is easy. Thankfully, we have 10+ museums to explore indoors, local swimming spots and splash pads to cool down, and cool treats to indulge in.

Don’t forget to check in on Tennessee’s inclement weather resources and take a peek at what the rest of the season has in store for us. Who knows, maybe this will be a record-breaking year after all.
