Creatives wanted for inaugural pumpkin carving competition

Local pumpkin carvers are invited to participate in a contest at the Chattanooga Market’s Haunted Market event. AIGA Chattanooga presents GUTS, a pumpkin carving contest for local and regional creatives on Oct. 28. benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The contest will be held between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the market. Spectators can watch the competition and make donations to Make-A-Wish at the event. GUTS swag will also be available for purchase and items can be bid on during a silent auction. All money raised will help make one wish come true, including carver’s fees, sales of pumpkins, donation boxes and merchandise sold at the event. Local creatives or creative agencies can contact AIGA membership director Beth Paden for information on registration. Guest judges include Charlie Newton, founder of Splash Youth Arts Workshops, Kreneshia Whiteside, AVA’s chief curator, and Rodney Van Valkenburg, director of grants and initiatives at ArtsBuild. AIGA Chattanooga’s GUTS competition is a #DesignFoGood event. The organization is the oldest and largest membership association for professionals engaged in the discipline, practice and culture of designing. The annual Haunted Market features a day of costume parades, trick-or-treating, pumpkins and more on Oct. 28.
