Back in June, Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport became the nation’s first airport to produce enough solar energy for its own daily power needs. Chattanooga as a whole has taken impressive strides towards sustainability, from city recycling centers to initiatives like the CARTA Electric Shuttle.
Commitment to sustainability is also big for EPB, which has a LEED-certified downtown HQ, uses biodiesel + hybrid vehicles, + generates green, renewable energy via solar power. In 2018 EPB launched Solar Share – Chattanooga’s first community solar project for local residents + businesses – in partnership with Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA).
How it works: EPB customers tap into solar energy captured by solar panels at the Solar Share facility on Holtzclaw Ave. + share the cost of maintenance – reaping the benefits without expensive home construction to add panels on their own homes.
A closer look at Solar Share, by the numbers:
- Facility has 4,408 solar panels on 3.8 acres
- Produces ~2 million kilowatts of power per year
- Can meet the average power needs of 130 homes
Solar Share is available to all interested in easily accessing clean, renewable energy. You don’t even have to own your home. Click here or below to learn more about the program and how to participate (starting at just $5/month) + get a free monthly credit. Ⓟ
