Local company transforms kitchens

What started out as a custom furniture business has developed into a low-cost kitchen transformation company. Brad and Karenza Pentiah started Woodtryst in 2013 and soon found out that focusing only on custom furniture wasn’t going to pay the bills. “It transformed and it grew,” Brad said. “We still do custom furniture. We may build 10 pieces a year. That’s why we added kitchens and all that fun.” Now business is going well for the company, which does eight to 12 projects a month. The Pentiahs are nearly booked through October, Brad said. Woodtryst’s work includes cabinet work and tile backsplashes. The company doesn’t do countertops but works with other businesses that do. So, ultimately, Woodtryst can do a complete kitchen makeover. And the team always does the project in five days, which is a big selling point for customers. “People use their kitchen to hang out, cook and have family meetings,” Brad said. “If everything is a chaotic mess...[people tend] to be overwhelmed and feel out of sorts. I make it a priority to reach the timelines because I don’t want my clients feeling anxious or stressed out over the project.” If that means working 12-14 hour days, that’s what the Woodtryst team does, he said. Brad also aims to keep prices lower than competitors. He hasn’t put much money into his marketing budget, so he’s able to maintain lower prices, he said. “We use the highest quality finish available, so we warranty our work for 5 years,” Karenza said.
